'Star Wars: Episode I' to Hit 3-D Theaters in February 2012

More detailed info on "Star Wars" 3-D release has just come out. It was previously known that the sci-fi saga will hit theaters starting 2012 and now The Hollywood Reporter reports that 20th Century Fox and Lucasfilm are eying to re-release "Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace" in February 2012.

Specific date of "Star Wars: Episode I" 3-D release has not been announced but sources tell the site that Fox is eying a date around Valentine's Day. The other five films are expected to follow a year apart on comparable dates.

John Knoll, a visual effects supervisor of ILM which oversees the 3-D conversion of "Star Wars", has previously said that they won't do the conversion in a rush. "Getting good results on a stereo conversion is a matter of taking the time and getting it right," he stated. "For Star Wars we will take our time, applying everything we know both aesthetically and technically to bring audiences a fantastic new 'Star Wars' experience."

"Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace" was first released in 1999. It serves as the first of a three-part prequel to the original "Star Wars" trilogy, which started with 1977 "Star Wars" aka "Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope".
